How Fountain Pens Can Teach Us the Art of Mindfulness + ASMR Video

A few simple tips for life: feet on the ground, head to the skies, heart open…quiet mind.

There is something magical about opening a journal and writing with a new pen and ink; especially a fountain pen. Although it may be easier to use any old plastic pen, fountain pens can teach us patience, mindfulness and become an enjoyable hobby to fall in love with.

So how can fountain pens teach us the art of mindfulness you ask? I’ll give you 3 key examples…

  1. Journaling + Setting an Intention

Journaling is a great way to stop, drop, and be mindful of what you are currently feeling and just let your words and thoughts flow onto the paper. It is extremely therapeutic and it’s like a breath of fresh air. When you journal you are subconsciously setting the intention of practicing mindfulness and bringing your awareness to your thoughts, how you feel and allowing yourself to process your emotions.

  2. Meditation + Focus

Most people think that meditation is sitting with your legs crossed and just breathing which couldn’t be farther from the truth. Meditation is anything that allows you to fall into the flow state and forget time and just allow yourself to simply let go and be. Writing can be cathartic as you watch the ink flow onto the paper (especially if you have great paper and a smooth writing experience). Focusing on your writing will help you to forget the past and future and bring your mind to the present moment.

3. Being Present

Mindfulness is all about being present and not thinking about the past or worrying about the future. It takes practice and patience but it is so worth the time and effort. Practicing your penmanship with a fountain pen is a great way to implement being present. It is a stress-free exercise that you can have total creative freedom with!
